On Bridezillas and Busybodies
My latest Georgetowner column focuses on love and marriage - the good, bad, and the bridezilla varieties. It's very easy for us to get caught up in the popular culture's vilification of brides (and, conversely, in their elevation to princess-status). I had to really think about how to approach the first question about a bridezilla's out-of-control budget. It would have been too easy to focus on what the bride should do differently. But when I thought about who wrote the question - the groom's stepsister - I had to remember that despite the occasion, this was really a question about personal responsibility. The writer was struggling with how to get involved in a situation that she did not really need to be involved in at all.
